When you connect to the internet with Windows 95/98 you are using a complex set of Windows components that was built into the operating system in order to make it easier for people to access the internet. The components that are collectively known as "Communications" includes Dial-Up Networking, TCP/IP and any of the files that these two components need to function correctly. Occasionally, these files are corrupted by third party programs, but in most cases the corruption occurs for no apparent reason.
